POTTER was charged with replacment of a very small, 1930's era elementary school in a challenged neighborhood of the District.

While there was a strong self-image, the crime around the site called for a hardened envelope.  We avoided an oppressive outcome

by incorporating clerestory windows into each classroom, creating sought-after instruction space in the District to this day.

 

In the site planning of the project, we removed 22 blighted structures to enlarge the site and improved educational zone.  A public-use

trail and park included in the playground area delivered a safe and popular public green for residents to us when school is not in use.
